Health Care Jobs in New York
A group of students from the University of Nevada, Reno, Orvis School ofNursing hosted a health fair for homeless individuals Nov. 18 at St. Vincent’sDining Hall. The event was part of a group project for the students’ nursingclass “Care of the Community, Mental Health and Chronically Ill,” taught byclinical instructor Maureen Barnes, RN.
“We conducted surveys to see what healthcare issues are of most concern tothose who access the dining hall, as well as to those who run the facility andothers who provide services to the indigent,” said Travis Miller, a seniornursing student who was one of eight conducting the health fair.
The students took blood pressure measurements and provided information ontopics such as smoking cessation, heart health, sexual health and hygiene,dental hygiene, mental health and bed bugs. After the fair, they conductedanother survey to see what attendees learned.
